At an age when children have a fun and bubbling life, Kumaraswamy, a 9-year-old boy, is afflicted with Relapsed Pre B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Late Medullary relapse). He is on treatment at the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit, Department of Pediatrics at St John’s Medical College Hospital. His overall chances of survival are 20-30%, and he has been started on chemotherapy at St John’s Hospital on 22/07/19. The estimated cost of his treatment for the initial induction chemotherapy is 2.5-3 lakh rupees. If he responds to the initial treatment, he will continue further chemotherapy, the expenses for which would be approximately 5-6 lakh rupees over a period of 2.5-3 years. This estimate is exclusive of any Intensive care admissions that he may require. In case he does not respond to the initial induction, he would require an Allogenic Stem cell transplant which is exclusive of this estimate.
Kumaraswamy’s father Ravi Kumar is an auto driver by occupation. And his Mother Bhagya is a housewife with no income. The poor child has become a recluse and does not mingle with children of his age as he thinks they will make fun of him. The parent’s life is devastated due to their child’s disease, and with their meagre income, they are doing everything within their means to get him treated and become like any normal child.
How Right To Live is helping:
As mentioned above, Kumar Swamy’s family members cannot afford the cost of this treatment. The Right To Live team is trying to raise funds for his treatment.
Please remember that 100% of your donation goes for the patient’s treatment. We don’t use any part of donations for our admin expenses since those costs are covered by our trustees.
