Idhayangal Charitable Trust (ICT), in partner with Right To Live, is doing yeoman’s service in treating poor children suffering from Type-I Diabetes.

What is Idhayangal Charitable Trust (ICT)?

"Idhayangal” (‘Hearts’ in Tamil) is a Charitable Trust formed by Dr Krishnan Swaminathan, MD, PhD, FRCP, and a leading Endocrinologist from Coimbatore. ICT is a 12 A, 80 G & CSR eligible trust for the benefit of underprivileged children suffering from insulin-requiring Type 1 diabetes in India. ICT aims to let no poor child with Type 1 diabetes suffer or die for want of funds or support to buy insulins, consumables, insulin pumps, or education.

Such unfortunate children are generally aged between 1-18 years and need lifelong four times insulin injections per day. Sub-optimal diabetes control at a young age leads to end-stage kidney failure, blindness, and loss of life in the early ’20s. However, proper glucose control, regular blood and urine investigations, close follow-up, and proper insulin treatment will enable such children to need normal healthy lives. Currently, ICT supports close to 350 children from underprivileged families, and the numbers are increasing exponentially every month.

PROJECT SOUNDARYA: What is this about?

We recently lost a 17 year old bright child Soundarya with Type 1 diabetes for want of funds and awareness to get the best treatment to control her diabetes. Family was unable to buy even glucose strips due to rank poverty. PROJECT SOUNDARYA aims to support poor children with insulin needing diabetes attending Government Hospitals across the nation with glucometers, glucose strips and best insulins to ensure there are no more Soundaryas in India. We are determined to make sure that Soundarya’s loss transforms lives of thousands of poor children with Type 1 diabetes in district and state hospitals. There are thousands of deserving children needing help.

How can you help?

Rs 800/ USD 10/ GBP 8 can support one glucometer for testing glucoses

Rs 500/ USD 7/ GBP 5 can support one month of glucose strips

Rs 2500 per month/ USD 35/ GBP 25 can support one month of best in class insulins

You will be pleased to know that 100% of your donation goes to the procurement of glucose and insulins. We do not use any part of donations for admin expenses since those costs are covered by our trustees. So, please come forward and lend a helping hand to ensure no poor child with Type 1 diabetes suffer or die for want of funds or support to buy insulins or consumables.
